First Week in Bloomington

Hello everyone!
This week was pretty great! Elder Westenskow is a great companion, he has a real desire to work and to be obedient, which is great! The area is a lot different than I'm used to. It's a fairly wealthy area with a lot of Caucasian and Indian people, in fact my area is nicknamed Little India. They are always very nice and open when we first contact them but generally they disappear when you try to contact them again, it's very different. Right now we're trying to get new investigators since we only have one solid investigator and one couple to work with. All of my other areas have had 40+ potentials and for once I'm going to be doing lots of tracting and street contacting. Right now we are being advised to not tract since it is very ineffective but we really don't know what else to do in this area, so until we can figure that out we're going to have no choice but to do a lot of generic personal finding. We are really trying to start working with the members more though so hopefully member work starts picking up more. I am excited to start doing a lot of personal finding though since I haven't had to do a lot of that before.
We had an awesome experience on Wednesday during a dinner we had.
After our lesson we asked if there was anything we could do for her and she didn't have any service for us to do but she walked us over to one of her neighbors houses and introduced us. This woman was more than happy to have us help her and she even offered to feed us! The miracles happen when we open our mouth, this member said she was hesitant to say anything but because she knows how important the gospel is she decided to just go for it. And look at the miracles that followed! I definitely have a testimony of the importance of members now, I feel really bad for not giving any referrals because I could have made the missionaries job so much easier and I could have tried to help those I care about.
That's pretty much it for this week!
Make it a great week everyone!

Transfers

Hey Everyone!

This last week was pretty great. We got rebuked pretty hardcore by Elder Martino on Wednesday when we had a Mission Tour. The tour was super awesome I definitely learned a lot from Elder Martino and from his wife. He basically told us that we've been doing it all wrong and that there is a better way. We already knew this stuff but the hard part was trying to figure out how to do it. What he told us was that we need to work with members, no exceptions. That was the part we knew, but he actually gave us some really good ideas on how to do that and we've already started to implement those things and we've had more lessons in members homes these past few days than I've had almost the whole transfer. It works wonderfully! I can't wait to implement it in my new area.
New area? Yep, that's right. Guess who's getting transferred...this guy. I am being moved (on Tuesday) to the Bloomington 2nd Ward with Elder Westenskow as my new companion. This will be his first transfer not being trained so he's pretty new, I'm excited to be with a newer missionary because they have a fire that gets lost the longer out you've been. I'm hoping he can help me rekindle that fire. I've heard that my area is in a richer part of town, which is the opposite of where I've been in my last two areas, so this should be a new experience for me. I'm really excited to see what the Lord has in store for me in Bloomington and I can't wait to serve the people there and work hard!
I've definitely seen a lot of blessings this week as I've been trying to work on some Christlike attributes. I exhort everyone to go to chapter 6 in Preach My Gospel and pick an attribute to work on as I know that while we try to become more like Christ it will help us draw closer to him and help prepare us to enter into the kingdom of God.
I love you all and hope and pray that you all make this week good!

Herbert was Baptized!

Hello all!
Herbert was baptized on Saturday and confirmed a member of The Church yesterday. It was pretty awesome to be a part of this chapter of his life and I truly am blessed to have been able to testify to him of the truthfulness of this gospel and help pave the pathway for the Holy Ghost to touch his heart. Teaching him was fun and stressful, preparing for the baptism was super stressful, and seeing him baptized made it all well worth it. Now for the part that scared me at first....helping him stay active and converted. People that get baptized here have a hard time staying active it seems, almost everyone that has been baptized in the past year is inactive to the point that we can't even make contact. So I'm really praying that Herbert won't turn out the same. He gave me some hope on Sunday though. We forgot to tell him that he had a ride to church (our fault) and he actually reached out to a member on his own! That definitely eased a lot of stress seeing that he tried to get to church. The Ward is also on top of trying to keep him active. During Ward Council they talked about getting his neck size so they can get him a white shirt, he already has a home teaching companion and is going this Tuesday, and they already have an assignment for him. They're on fire!
The rest of our week was pretty much just trying to contact a lot of people and contacting referrals. It was a pretty good week overall, hoping to make next week better!
Another awesome baptism happened as well! Justin, the YSA's investigator who has been investigating for a looooong time got baptized as well! He's been waiting a long time for this and you can just tell how happy he is! Elder Maynard interviewed him on Tuesday and it was at his house so I had to stand outside while it was happening and it started pouring rain....so that was fun, luckily another YSA was there so we got drenched together.
This week is the last week of this transfer and I can definitely say that this transfer has flown by. And it was the longest transfer I'll ever have and it feels the shortest. That's a good sign!
I've been studying a lot about charity and love lately and some revelation came to me during the sacrament and I think it can apply to everyone. Try to say I love you, I appreciate you, and thank you more this week. I've already started to and in one day I feel happier and I'm already thinking less negatively about others, it's pretty awesome!

Have a great week everyone!
